to set up research laboratory in India |

Motorola Labs is
actively looking at setting up a research laboratory
in India, adding to the existing high-end research
outfits of GE, IBM and HP. As a precursor to the
lab, Motorola is moving into a new $13 million campus
of its own that will house its 1200 engineers, working
on the product development cycles of the company.
Motorola India Electronics has in the past 12
years of their presence in India, built up extensive
expertise in the Communication sector and the
new lab is likely to focus on this research unit.

Sun Microsystems to recruit 300 more techies
|

Sun Microsystems
is adding some 300 new software jobs over the next
few months to its Bangalore operations. The current
head count at Bangalore rests at 700.
The new recruits are likely to join Sun’s
core engineering solutions, clustering, applications
and web server divisions. Besides the new hiring,
a sizeable number of Indian employees - operating
at Sun Micro’s Silicon Valley facility -
would be relocating to Bangalore.

India to buy stake in 4 Egyptian cos |

State-run gas transmission
and marketing major Gail India plans to pick up
equity stakes in four Egyptian gas distribution
companies. It has already finalised deals with Shell
CNG and Fayum Gas, for buying equity stakes of 22%
and 18% respectively
While negotiations with Egyptian- NatGas and
Nile Valley Corporation are still in progress,
Gail is also exploring expansion opportunities
in the Philippines, Turkey and Bangladesh.

i-flex acquires US SuperSolutions for $11.5 m
|

Mumbai-based banking software product company
i-flex Solutions has acquired US-based software
company SuperSolutions Corporation for $11.5 million
in an all-cash deal.
SuperSolutions is expected to create another
growth engine for the company by opening up the
consumer finance market segment.

| Concerto
Software to set up global help desk in February
|
 |
US-based Concerto Software is likely to set up
its global help desk in India in February, with
70 people to provide high-end support to worldwide
customers.
Sources revealed that the company had zeroed
in on Bangalore and Hyderabad, for the setting
up of the centre. India will be the fourth of
the Company’s global help desks, the others
being located in US, London and Singapore.
